SGY Student Receives Award from Mathematician Shing-Tung Yau
On July 23, the “Dialogue with Scientists·College Students” event, part of the 2025 International Congress of Basic Sciences (ICBS), was held in Beijing. Distinguished guests included Academician Shing-Tung Yau, President of ICBS and Fields Medalist, and Valentino Tosatti, Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and Professor at New York University. Nearly 200 student representatives from across China attended the event, attending lectures and engaging in discussions with scientists.

Seven recipients nationwide received the ICBS 2025 Best Undergraduate Paper awards. Chen Kaizhe, an undergraduate student from School of the Gifted Young (SGY), received this honor for his thesis titled “Ricci Curvature and Combinatorial Properties of Amply Regular Graphs,” completed under the guidance of Professor Liu Shiping at USTC. This ICBS award was established at the 2024 International Congress of Basic Sciences upon the proposal of Academician Shing-Tung Yau. It aims to encourage students to engage in original mathematical research during their undergraduate studies. It is particularly remarkable that Chen Kaizhe earned this achievement as a junior .
