A Panorama of AI in ChinaSGY Alumnus Mingjie Zhu (SGY’00) helps lead China’s AI Development Blueprint
In June 2020, the a Perspective paper title Towards a New Generation of Artificial Intelligence in China ( the Chinese title is 《新一代中国人工智能》, and referred to as AI in China thereafter) was published on in the journal Nature Machine Intelligence. The task of writing the paper collects viewpoints from a wide variety of academic and commercial organizations in China, and was organized under the auspices of the proceeded under the lead of Wutonghui Of AI Young Scientists Union of China. One of the coThe -first authors of the paper is Zhu Mingjie Zhu, a 0000 class of 2000 alumnus of the SCGY of USTCSchool for the Gifted Young (SGY) at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The , and the corresponding author, meanwhile, is Pan Yunhe Pan, Chairman of AI Young Scientists Union Academic Committee and an academician of the Chinese Engineering Academy of EngineeringChina. The other 12 co-authors are either from leading scholars of leading top universities of China, such as Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and USTC, or from the founders or heads of AI research and development of AI companies in various fields, such as such as Kexin Science and Technology, Byte Dance, Momenta, and Meituan, CraiditX and others.
AI in china The Perspective article is a panoramic paper that China scientists have published for the first time on the development of AI in China in a top international academic journal, showingoutlines the main direction of AI development and national-level planning for the development within China, and is a powerful voice of China's strongest AI forces as a wholecombined together. The publication of the paper demonstrates the global importance and influence of the development achievements of AI industry of China’s AI industry, and particularly highlights Shanghai's strength as a global center of artificial intelligence highland.
Released by the State Council in July 2017, the Plan for New Generation AI Development is the first systematic strategic plan in the field of AIi OF for China, including scientific and technological issues and guidelines on education and ethics, aiming at nurturing China’s AI ecosystem of China. Starting from the Plan for New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan (NGAI)this plan, this paper Perspective provides an in-depth interpretation of China's experience in cooperation in between industry and academia, research and development and the research results of and practical applications achieved in AI by Chinese researchers, and draws a blueprint of for development of an AI development ecosystem of within China in the future. According to the authors, "Bby 2030, China will be one of the world's top centers for artificial intelligence innovation."
Towards a New Generation of Artificial Intelligence in ChinaAI in China notes that the development of a new generation of artificial intelligence is based on cooperation between universities, governments and industryies. In the past few years, the Ministry of Science and Technology has established 15 national open innovation platforms based on application-driven, enterprise-led and market-oriented principles, including Baidu (autonomous driving), Alibaba (urban cognitionsmart cities), Tencent (medical imaging), and Iflytek (voice intelligencelanguage processing). The paper also points out that the lack of high-tech talents, the immaturity of the artificial intelligence ecosystem and the ethical problems inherent inof artificial intelligence research are the main obstacles to the wide application of artificial intelligence in China. To address these issues, and it is imperative to train local artificial intelligence emphasize training and talent developments, standardize artificial intelligence ethics, and support the long-term development and exploration of basic disciplinesresearch.
The paper also expounds the development of AI in the daily consumptionconsumer goods, finance, self-driving, medicineal and other industries, and demonstrates that AI of China is in the international leading an international leader position in the industrial applications of AI.
Wutonghui Of The AI Young Scientists Union of China, directed by the Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission, was founded by Zhu Mingjie Zhu, CEO of Kexin Science CraiditX (which uses AI to perform risk management and marketing services for financial institutions), and also a 0000 Class of 2000 alumnus of the SCGY of USTCUSTC’s SGY, and Lu Cewu Lu, Professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, during the 2018 World Artificial Intelligence Congress. The AI Young Scientists Union was inaugurated by Wu Qing, a member of the CPC Standing Committee of Shanghai and also a vice-governor of the People's Government of Shanghai, and of China is chaired by Pan Yunhe Pan, an academician of the Chinese Engineering Academy of China, and Shen Xiangyang Shen, an academician of the National Academy of Engineering (USA) and the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK)Academy of Britain and of America. The union aims to build an artificial intelligence talent exchange platform, through talent training, organize academic exchanges, and assist in matching between academic research and corporate needs. Through these efforts, the Union hopes to production and research docking, shorten the road to success for top talents, and help the development of the AI academy and industry in China.
"It is a with great pride pride that weto publish a paper on the current state and the future of AI in China on behalf of the major players in AI forces of in China., It shows which also means that our generation of AI practitioners are shouldering the greater mission and pressure of building China’s AI capabilities of China,." says Zhu Mingjie Zhu, also an executive director of the AI Young Scientists Union, said.
"Talent training in the field of artificial intelligence is a long-term topicissue, " said Lu Cewu Lu, an executive director of the AI Young Scientists Union and director of honorary doctoral class of Wu Wenjun of Shanghai Jiaotong University, "Talents are the biggest driver of a the new generation of artificial intelligence."
