By comparing different international higher education models, and after more than thirty years of practice, SCGY forms its own education system: a two-stage training model. During the first two years, the emphasis in the education is to equip them with a solid foundation in main fields of natural science. In the following two years, a student can choose any field he/she is interested as his/her own major.

Strengthen the basis. In the first one or two years, students in SCGY will take basic courses for mathematics, physics, English and computer science. At the same time, knowledge about scientific frontiers and liberal art is also emphasized.

Personalized training. After completion of the first stage training, students can choose a major according to his/her interest and potential. There will be some tutors for them to give personal instruction. The students are encouraged to make their own learning plan, taking courses with advices from tutors, participating research practice in any research laboratories in this university, and so on.

Ability development emphasized. SCGY students are encouraged to attend seminars, to participate lab research, and to conduct social investigation. There are several projects very popular for them, such as robot competitions, Challenge Cup, international Mathematical Contest in Modeling, and University Students Research Program. With these activities beyond classroom, they are expected to build their innovative ability and teamwork spirit.
