"2015 University Campus Lecture Tour by National Leading Talents of Intellectual Property” was successfully held in USTC

On Oct 29th, BU Fang, Director of the Telecommunication Examination Department of the Patent Office, SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office), gave a speech at Water Hall, titled “Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property (IP)”. This event is under the speech series of “2015 University Campus Lecture Tour by National Leading Talents of Intellectual Property”. It was co-organized by the School of Public Affairs, USTC Youth League and the National IP Training Base (Anhui).

JIANG Yi, Vice Party Secretary of USTC; SUN Wei, Director of the Training Centre, SIPO; GAO Qiang, Division chief of the Training Centre, SIPO; DI Yong, Vice Director of the Anhui IP Office; SONG Wei, Dean of the School of Public Affairs; ZHOU Chaosheng, Dean assistant of the School of Public Affairs and Vice Director of the Anhui IP Training Base attended the speech. 

The speech attracted nearly 300 faculty and students, including students from Anhui University, Hefei University of Technology , Anhui Jianzhu University; as well as dozens of international students who are mostly from “Belt and Road” route countries. They all showed great interest in the topic. The event was hosted by Dean SONG Wei.

Prof. JIANG Yi warmly welcomed all participants on behalf of USTC. He introduced USTC’s efforts on IP, praised the achievements of the Anhui IP training Base and the Patent Agent Test Centre. He then expressed his wishes for a successful event. Director SUN Wei talked about the development of IP in China, the talent training model and the significance of the tour. 

Director BU Fang, as the main lecturer, shared four aspects related to entrepreneurship and IP: the core concept of IP; University students’ career plan in the current knowledge-based economy; China’s protection of IP; job prospects in the IP industry and its challenges. He gave examples of HUAWEI, Tencent and MI to indicate how innovation plays an important role in these private enterprises. He encouraged students to be brave innovators, and to implement innovation and IP strategies. 

Director BU stressed that patents increasingly play a more important role as the core components of IP in a knowledge-based economy. Patents have become the key elements in entrepreneurial competition. They are an important strategic resource for businesses, employed to maintain sustainable innovation capability and to win a competitive advantage. Director BU believed in a bright future for Chinese SMEs, and suggested students consider this as an opportunity to pursue their career goals. At the end of the speech, many students asked questions about career planning in the IP industry, Director BU answered patiently and was able to promote an interactive atmosphere among students.

"2015 University Campus Lecture Tour by National Leading Talents of Intellectual Property” has successfully concluded with Director BU’s informative speech. USTC as the final stop of the tour, has gained applause from officials of SIPO, regarding USTC as the most successful event holder. SIPO encourages USTC faculty and students to make every effort to contribute to the implementation of China’s IP strategy.
