SGY Alumni | Sheng Meng (SGY '96) Elected Fellow of American Physical Society

On October 4, the American Physical Society (APS) announced that Sheng Meng, an alumnus of the School of the Gifted Young, is elected as an APS Fellow. Dr. Sheng Meng started college study at SGY in 1996. He is currently a researcher, group leader, and Deputy Laboratory Director at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Founded in 1899, APS has more than 40,000 members, and is one of the world's most prestigious physics societies. Each year, APS elects no more than 0.5% of its members as Fellows, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the field of physics.

The citation for Dr. Sheng Meng states: “For developing quantum computational techniques that incorporate electronic and nuclear effects, enabling accurate and efficient simulations of excited states in molecules and solids, and leading to fundamental advances in understanding light-matter interactions.”

Dr. Sheng Meng graduated from USTC in 2000, and obtained a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the Institute of Physics, and jointly from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, in 2004. From 2005 to 2009, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Physics at Harvard University.
